MY GAMECHANGER.
ANY GUESSES? 🙂
A little over 40 days into the hundred days, my hubby and I took a trip to Denver. And during that visit, I met up for coffee and a sketch date with a friend of friend (thank you, Trupti!), Cynthia Morris. What a fun afternoon!
She picked one of the cutest coffee shops in Denver, Black Eye Coffee…a hip little joint that was not only beautiful but served exceptionally delicious coffee. We decided to draw each other as we chatted about life, projects and hopes we had for the future….and then she pulled out what soon became my #100 Day Project Gamechanger :)…
WATERCOLORS! She had the cutest little tin, filled with itty-bitty watercolors…and a brush that she could fill up with a few ounces of water! So all she had to do when she wanted to create was…pull out her sketchbook, her little tin of watercolors and her brush…and voila she was ready to paint! I on the other hand had just brought a few pens, china markers and a handful of gelatos because I don’t generally travel with my numerous tubes of paint, pallette, water jar, rags, table protector, etc, etc…
I was not only mesmerized by her set-up but SMITTEN :)—-I am such an art geek.
It wasn’t long before she picked up on my googly eyes and with one of her sweet smiles said, “You wanna try”? And that was the beginning of my love affair with watercolors—the single biggest game changer of my #100 Day Project :). Needless to say, the next day I made a beeline to my favorite art store in Denver and picked up a little travel set + brush that I couldn’t wait to open and start playing with!
With this handy-dandy set up…my once stationery art set up became not only portable but super easy to clean up and provided a whole new medium for me to have adventures in :). So take a close look… after around #40, almost the whole second half of my project is done in nothing but luscious watercolors. And it opened up a world where some days I’d paint in the kitchen, some nights on the couch (!) and some of my favorites were done when I traveled to Turks and Caicos, California and the coffee shop down the street from me.
I will always LOVE my mixed media art, but am so grateful for these little darlings coming into my life!
So, what’s been one of the biggest game changers for you this year :)?
Lots of love,
Kajal
Kajal,
Thank you for sharing your creative abilities with the public, and inspiring me with your post today. Just when one assumes someone “has got it all down” in their area of specialty, we can be reminded there is ALWAYS more to learn, adapt, and fuel our areas of strengths!
Sending love and prayer that your creative projects reach the masses of people to whom your artwork brings joy and comfort.
