Happy New Year’s! 2014 is here…can you believe it? I think I say this every year, but I really do feel like time is moving so much faster these days. So what intentions are you setting for the New Year? What is your word for the year going to be?
Last year my word was “GROW”…and that I did. I grew stronger and healthier by learning that I’m gluten intolerant, so I changed my diet and saw a big shift in my health. I also grew more open by not letting fears dominate me as much which pushed me to give my first official cooking class. I grew more outward by taking the risk with my husband to move across the country and start a new adventure on the east coast. And lastly, I grew more refreshed by granting myself permission to “hibernate” after our move…so that I could take the time to nest some and make our new house feel like a home as well as spend some time getting acquainted with our new surroundings.
As for 2014, initially I thought I thought I wanted my word to be “soar”, but after contemplating it a little more…I realized that for me 2014 is really going to be about staying open; so my mantra for 2014 is BE OPEN.
BE OPEN …to what the universe may want to teach.
BE OPEN …to however things unfold.
BE OPEN …to what adventures lie ahead…internally and externally.
BE OPEN …to new opportunities that may come knocking.
BE OPEN …to new friendships and connections.
BE OPEN …to the unknown possibilities of each and every day.
So what is YOUR word for 2014?

My word for 2014 is NURTURE.
I will nurture my body by being more kind. Specifically getting on that darn treadmill that has been collecting dust in my basement.
I will nurture my mind by embracing my imperfections.
I will nurture my marriage by speaking my truth.
I will nurture my children by playing with them in their rooms more. Yes- the laundry and dishes can wait.
I will nurture my friends by calling more and stopping by for lovely visits.
I will nurture my faith by praying more purposefully.
I will nurture my creative spirit by installing a mural for my school community.
Here’s to new beginnings!
Happy New Year’s Darci! Nurture is a great word…I can see it happening now!
I haven’t completely committed to my word yet, but right now it is “enough”. I have to realize that I am enough….and to stop comparing myself to others (in a negative way). I also need to learn when to say “enough” and be able to know my limits without taking on too much.
Learning ENOUGH is hard, but a great one. I can see myself working on that one too :)!
Word for 2014 is “Voice of Silent Actions” There is no need to shout to be heard. Actions of the OPEN heart are always heard and seen by others who are OPEN.
Sita Ram, Kajal.

That’s beautiful…and very wise Wes…couldn’t agree with you more!
I know I’m a bit late, but still wanted to share…
My motto for 2014 is THINK LESS, DO MORE!
I’ve found myself getting really tired lately because I’m so weighed down with all my thoughts and aspirations and I feel like I don’t have the time to accomplish them all…
And then I realized that if I thought less about what I wanted to do and just DID it with faith, I’d be a lot happier.
Thanks for the New Year’s Inspiration, Kajal!❤️ Sending you love!
I hear you Tara! “Keep it simple” needs to be a part of my 2014 vocabulary.
Love it Tara, you nailed it right on the head…if we get out of our heads, so much more possible!
my phrase for 2014 is “BE STILL.”
i have a tendency to be on the move all the time. i equate activity with productivity and often find myself exhausted … if not physically then emotionally. so i want to grant myself permission to BE STILL in 2014. i want to slow down and let things, people, opportunities come to me … or not come to me (and that is o.k.) i want to be observant of each day. i want to be observant of my environment. i want to cultivate what comes in and be conscientious of what i let go. i want to learn to be happy/satisfied with exactly what i am/have and share my excesses. i want to be still and grow my strength. in becoming more comfortable with stillness, i hope my tolerance toward distraction increases and they eventually fade away. 😉
here’s to being still in 2014 … wish me luck!
Here’s to BEING STILL, Annie….I think so many of us can relate to what you so beautifully captured in a few sentences. Especially in this day and age of the internet, cell phones, fb, twitter, and the other 1001 tracking devices….time definitely feels like its moving at warp speed! Good luck…I see many good things coming from being still!
Always look ahead.
I lost a dear friend a few months ago. He is the author of these words to me. ” Let it go, move on, always look ahead”. I cherish having met him along with the memories and sage advice he has given me from his heart. My hope is that I can live up to his words in 2014.
That’s perfect! It’s real testament to living in the moment and not getting caught up in the past! Love it, love it, love it!
