Who is Hanumanji
Who is Hanumanji you ask? Well Hanumanji is a monkey deity who is an ardent devotee of Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. He is was a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana.
His selfless devotion, unwavering faith and deep love for Rama was so great and so genuine that he is revered around the world as an exemplary servant of the Lord, who has a heart of gold. And yogi’s say, if you take the time to form a relationship with him (or that part inside yourself), you’ll surely be lead to that place of eternal truth.
What does he teach us?
His lifetime illustrates that when you put others first and give without expecting anything in return—anything is possible…you can move mountains, shape-shift when necessary and fly through the everyday maya (illusions) that is put in front of us. When we take refuge in Hanumanji–or that part inside of us that gives selflessly, is faithfully devoted, and loves unconditionally–we are opening a door in our hearts for love to flow in and brim out into all aspects of our life.
Celebrating his devotion
This week is Hanumanji’s Birthday—a really special day to celebrate and sing the praises of his love, devotion and self-less services. If you get a chance, check out a yoga center near you to see if they’re doing anything special on this day. Dhyanyoga Centers hosts an all day celebration where a 108 Hanuman Chalisa’s (40 verses dedicated to Hanumanji’s greatness) are sung. It’s one of my favorite days of the year…full of singing from the heart and feeding our soul. It’ll definitely leave you energized and completely blissful!
Happy Birthday Hanumanji!
