ROADTRIP season.
My hubby and I took our first road trip of the season this past weekend…we went down to L.A. to visit my sister. I always like packing a cooler and taking food for the road as I’m not a big fan of fast food…and Interstate 5 has nothing but every single fast food chain you can think of. So for this trip I packed all my smoothie supplies (for our breakfasts) :)….lots of berries, nuts and tortilla chips to nibble on during the drive…and a homemade Chocolate Soda Cake to share with with my sister.
Along the way we stopped in Studio City and met some of my old college friends for lunch. We ate at the BEST Raw/ Vegan restaurant I’ve ever been, too….It was called Sun Cafe and the food was de-lish….it’s definitely one that’s going on my favorites list and definitely one I would recommend if you’re visiting the L.A. area.
And then we finally met up with my sister and we got to met her boyfriend and his family…really sweet, warm, loving people…we had a ball with them. They just had a new baby arrive in the family…so we all had fun playing with the baby and talking…we talked a lot….everyone had the most amazing travels stories, funny family memories and just lots of laughter to share.
Her boyfriend’s mother made the BEST breakfast ever….she called it mexican farm food. The dish was called Chile Pasado….she soaked dried Pasado chiles overnight to rehydrated them and then she cooked them with some herbs and buffalo mozzarella….and then served them with rice and fresh tortillas…it was awesome…my new favorite breakfast!
And then we headed back home…we hit a little bit of holiday traffic….definitely could have packed a few more snacks :)….mental note for next time…but overall a really great trip! Here’s to a great summer, full of long and short road trips and day trips! Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend…in the next few weeks I’ll share some recipes for easy, satisfying and tasty travel foods…what’s your favorite road trip food?
Have a good week everyone!
Great blog! Thanks for taking us along on your trip! I thought of you today because I made the quinoa rice pilaf. It was great! I never would have thought of combining those grains. I cooked it with grated ginger and added some veggies. And used a Thai peanut sauce for my hubby and a tamari/orange sauce for me. Yum!
Thanks Laxmi! So glad to hear you made the Quinoa Rice Pilaf….I will definitely have to try it with your orange and tamari sauce…that sounds delish!
Love your blog Kajal!!
Thanks Trupti! Love you!
