Doesn’t that sound great :)? Well, that’s my goal; sustainable self care that equals inner growth and contentment.
Self-care is an interesting topic to me….it can be looked at from so many different ways, but at the end of the day it’s really figuring out what truly brings you balance, happiness and peace from within. For me, making self-care a priority became screechingly clear a few years ago….you can read about it here. And, so over the past few years….I’ve definitely been giving this topic the much needed attention that I should have been giving it all along.
The main things I’ve found invaluable on my journey are and that are part of my self-care routine are:
FEEDING MY SOUL DAILY
My daily yoga and meditation practice is what grounds me and makes my heart sing daily. Meditation can do AMAZING things for your mind, body and soul. Just 20 minutes a day can make you feel like a brand new person…the best part is, not only will you notice the change, but the people around you will, too.
TAKING CARE OF MY TEMPLE
Daily exercise is a great way to release stress and feed your happiness. I usually try to get some kind of movement in everyday…whether it’s a walk, working out my trainer friend or going to a yoga class….the movement really help take out any stagnation from work and it of course makes me feel so much stronger and energized.
NOURISHING MY BODY
In my world, eating is key. It definitely helps that I love cooking, but I always try to fill my diet with tons of fresh veggies, fruits and whole grains…..I like to call my style of cooking, Yogic Cooking, because at the end of the day I believe that the food I put in my body influence my mind, body and spirit; ultimately influencing my yoga and meditation practice. And the stronger my meditation and yoga practice, the stronger and happier I am.
FOSTERING MY CREATIVITY
For me cooking and the arts are an awesome outlet. In the kitchen I love experimenting and trying new things; the possibilities are truly endless. As for art, whether I’m painting, writing, or doing graphic design work…it definitely allows me to express myself in many ways, which is satisfying and really nourishing.
MAKING A POINT TO KEEP GOOD COMPANY
And lastly, I think the people we choose to surround ourselves greatly influence our self-esteem, our actions and our happiness. I make it a point to seek out company that feed all the things I listed above and that exude HAPPINESS and LOVE. We get to make choices everyday and CHOOSING the people you surround yourself with is one of the most important things you can do for yourself….so surround yourself with people who are going to LOVE and INSPIRE you.
So in a nutshell, these are the things I make a point to do for SUSTAINABLE SELF-CARE :). What do you do?
xo,
Kajal
These are all such grounding and important tools for self-care. Thanks for sharing! I also try to do all of the above things that you mentioned. Daily exercise seems to be the hardest for me, but I try to at least get out and walk if nothing else. Walking is so calming too. 🙂
I totally understand! And some days all those things might not happen….but if you’re able to a few times a week, that’s always great :)!
So nice to mee you Kimberly :)!
Keeping self-care sustainable is such an important point! I love that you have so many facets of self-care covered. They all work together and build on each other. 🙂
Thanks Kerryn, you’re so right on about how they build upon each other. And even if you miss doing one thing here or there….when you have a multitude of ways you take care of yourself you’re always in good shape :)! So glad you stopped by!
